How can we help?

Product information

Are Quantum Blades compatible with rain sensing wipers?

Yes, they're designed to be used with rain sensing wipers.

How long will these wiper blades last?

Through extensive testing we've found that our wiper blades will last between 14-16 months. This assumes you maintain them correctly.

Are you sure these wiper blades will fit my vehicle?

Yes. Weโ€™ve specifically arranged our wipers by your vehicle make and model. This means that if you choose your vehicle, your wipers are guaranteed to fit.

Do you send me the complete wiper blade or just the replacement refill rubber?

We send you a complete wiper blade, not just replacement refill rubber.

Can you install the wiper blades for me?

Unfortunatey we do not offer installation at this time but luckily installation takes just three simple steps. Watch our installation guide to help you install your new wipers in minutes - no mechanic required!

How do I know what size blades I need for my vehicle?

Weโ€™ve done the hard work for you. Simply search for your vehicle make, model and year on our website and you will find the exact-fit wiper blades. Order and theyโ€™ll be on your doorstep in no time!

What's the difference between conventional and flat wiper blades?

Conventional wiper blades use a metal frame with 6โ€“8 pressure points to hold the rubber against the glass. They've been the standard fitment on most vehicles for decades and are reliable, widely available, and cost-effective. Flat (or beam) wiper blades are a more modern design, they use a bracketless, frameless construction with an internal spring strip that applies even pressure across the entire length of the blade. This gives a cleaner, streak-free wipe, reduces wind lift at higher speeds, and produces less noise. Flat blades are increasingly being fitted as standard on new vehicles. Our fitment tool automatically matches you to the correct blade type for your specific vehicle, so you'll never need to guess.

What's the difference between silicone and rubber wiper blades?

Standard wiper blades use natural rubber, which is cost-effective and performs well in normal conditions. Silicone blades use a synthetic compound that is significantly more resistant to UV exposure, heat, and ozone degradation, all of which are particularly intense in the Australian climate. Silicone blades typically last considerably longer than rubber equivalents and maintain their flexibility across a wider temperature range, from freezing alpine mornings to 40ยฐC summer days on the highway. They also deposit a thin hydrophobic layer on the glass over time, which can help water bead and roll off even between wipe cycles. The trade-off is cost: silicone blades sit at a higher price point. Because of this, we recommend and supply natural rubber wiper blades.

What's the difference between OEM and aftermarket wiper blades?

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) wiper blades are the factory-fitted blades supplied by your car's manufacturer or an equivalent sold through your dealership. They're branded to your vehicle and can cost anywhere from $80 to $300+ for a set. Aftermarket blades are independently manufactured to meet or exceed the same performance standards, but without the dealership markup. Our Quantum Blades are precision-engineered to fit your specific vehicle make, model, and year, the same rubber compound, the same wipe quality, at a fraction of the price. That's why we back them with a 14-month warranty.

Are more expensive wiper blades worth it?

In most cases, yes, but the answer depends on what you're comparing. Moving from a budget conventional blade to a quality flat (beam) blade is worth it for most drivers: better pressure distribution, no metal frame to rust or trap debris, and noticeably quieter operation. The question to ask is total cost of ownership, not sticker price. A blade that lasts 18 months and wipes cleanly is better value than a cheap blade replaced every 6 months. Wiper Blade Direct's Quantum Blades are backed by a 14-month warranty. If they don't perform, we replace them.

Should I replace both wiper blades at the same time?

Yes and it's the approach we recommend. Wiper blades on the same vehicle wear at a similar rate, so if one blade is showing signs of age, the other won't be far behind. Replacing both at the same time ensures consistent wiping performance across your windscreen, which is important for visibility and safety in heavy rain. It's also more cost-effective than replacing one blade now and returning for the second a few months later. All Wiper Blade Direct's orders include both the driver's side and passenger's side blades as a matched pair, so you're always covered front-to-front.

Will these fit my car if it's a higher-spec variant (GTI, ST-X, RS, WRX, etc.)?

Yes. Wiper blade fitment is determined by the wiper arm connection type and blade length, not the trim level or performance variant. Whether you drive a base model or the top-of-the-range version, our blades are selected to fit your specific make, model, and year. The only exception is if your vehicle has been modified with a non-standard wiper system, which is rare. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll confirm fitment for you.

Does my car need to be in wiper service position to change the blades?

Not necessarily but it can make the job easier on certain vehicles. Wiper service position lifts the blades away from the bonnet so you have more room to work. It's most common on European vehicles built from around 2018 onwards, including many Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen models, as well as some newer Chinese-made vehicles. To check if your car has it, look in your owner's manual or explore our wiper service positions page. If you're not sure, you can still change your blades without it, simply lift the arm, work carefully within the available space, and follow our installation guide for your vehicle.

Do wiper blades have a shelf life if stored before fitting?

Yes. Wiper blade rubber begins to degrade from the moment it's manufactured, even in storage. UV exposure, heat, and ozone attack the rubber compound over time regardless of whether the blades are on a vehicle. If you've purchased blades in advance, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. A cupboard or garage shelf is fine, but not in a hot car boot. Wiper blades stored in good conditions for up to 12 months should be fine to fit, but we'd recommend inspecting the rubber edge before installation. If it shows any signs of hardening, cracking, or brittleness, replace them before fitting.

Fitment help

My car's registration year doesn't match the model year. Which one do I select?

This is a common source of confusion and worth getting right. Vehicle manufacturers typically release a new model year mid-way through the calendar year, which means a car registered in late 2019 could actually be a 2020 model year, or vice versa. This matters for wiper blade fitment because manufacturers sometimes change blade types or connector fittings between model years, even on the same nameplate. When using our vehicle selector, choose based on the model year rather than the registration year. If you're unsure which model year your car is, check your owner's manual, the vehicle identification plate in the door jamb, or your service history. Still not certain? Contact us with your make, model, and registration details and we'll confirm the right fit for you.

I drive a privately imported vehicle, will these fit?

In most cases, yes. Grey import vehicles often share the same wiper specifications as the Australian-market equivalent. However, some privately imported cars, particularly older Japanese domestic market (JDM) vehicles, can have non-standard blade lengths or connector types that differ from the local spec. If your vehicle isn't listed in our fitment tool, or you're not sure which model applies to your import, send us the make, model, year, and a photo of your existing blades and we'll find the right fit for you.

Care and maintenance

My wiper blades are streaking, chattering, or making noise, what should I do?

This is usually caused by one of three things: a dirty windscreen, debris on the blade rubber, or a blade that's past its best. Start by cleaning your windscreen thoroughly with a glass cleaner, then wipe down the rubber edge of each blade with a damp cloth. If the issue persists, check that the blade is sitting flush against the glass and that the arm isn't bent away from the screen. Still having trouble? Our blades come with a 14-month warranty, contact us with your order number and a photo and we'll sort it out.

How do I clean my wiper blades to make them last longer?

Regular cleaning is one of the simplest ways to extend the life of your blades and maintain a streak-free wipe. Every few weeks, lift the wiper arms away from the screen and wipe down the rubber edge with a damp microfiber cloth. For a deeper clean, a small amount of mild dish soap in water works well. After cleaning, wipe the blade dry with a clean cloth before lowering the arms back onto the screen. A few things to avoid: never use petrol, harsh solvents, glass polish, or silicone sprays on the rubber, these break down the rubber compound and reduce the blade's flexibility and grip on the glass. Also clean your windscreen regularly, as road film, insect residue, and traffic grime are abrasive and accelerate blade wear.

Can worn wiper blades actually damage my windscreen?

Yes and it's a risk most drivers don't consider. When the rubber on a wiper blade is cracked, split, or worn through, the hard metal or plastic components of the blade frame can come into direct contact with your glass. Over time, this can leave fine scratches or abrasion marks on the windscreen surface. In worse cases, repeated contact can weaken the glass and increase the risk of cracking. A wiper blade that smears, skips, or leaves streaks isn't just an inconvenience, it's telling you the rubber has degraded to the point where it's no longer protecting your screen. Replacing blades promptly when they show these signs is one of the easiest ways to avoid a costly windscreen repair or replacement.

How does heat and UV affect wiper blades in the Australian climate?

More than most drivers realise. Australia's UV index is among the highest in the world, and rubber degrades faster under intense UV and ozone exposure than it does from actual use. A blade that sees a typical European or North American summer might last 12โ€“18 months; the same blade parked outdoors in Queensland or Western Australia may show deterioration in half that time. Heat compounds the issue, a windscreen sitting in direct sun can reach 70โ€“80ยฐC on a hot day, which accelerates the hardening and cracking of the rubber edge. If you park outdoors regularly in a high-UV or high-heat region, inspect your blades every six months rather than waiting for performance to drop, and consider silicone blades for longer service life.

Should I ceramic coat my windscreen?

We'd advise against it. While ceramic coatings work well on painted panels and side windows, applying them to your windscreen can interfere with how your wiper blades interact with the glass. The coating can cause the rubber to skip, chatter, or leave hazy streaks, the opposite of what you're after. If your windscreen has already been coated and you're experiencing wiper problems, a thorough clean with a dedicated glass polish can often help restore normal performance.

Can I recycle my old wiper blades?

Old wiper blades can't be recycled as a single unit, but the materials inside them can be separated and recycled individually. The metal beam or frame can go into your curbside metal recycling, while the rubber strip can be cut away and disposed of with general waste. Some local councils also accept small rubber items at drop-off facilities, check your council's website for details. It takes about 30 seconds to strip a blade down, and it's a small step toward keeping them out of landfill.
